A Emberly company - serving Denton, TX

Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

This page is for Denton homeowners with a Famco flue liner, chimney cap, or venting component that’s cracked, corroded, or no longer meeting code. That includes the FM-80 and FM-100 series flexible liners common in 1990s and 2000s builds around the Oakmont and Southridge neighborhoods, where alkaline clay soil accelerates exterior corrosion on lower stainless grades. If you’re seeing rust stains on the chimney breast, smelling smoke in upstairs rooms, or staring at a competitor’s estimate you don’t trust, call (940) 373-6912. Corrine Halstead and our crew will walk you through what we find before any work starts.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • FM-80 flexible liner: seam separation at the collar joint. The FM-80’s lower-gauge stainless collar was spot-welded on early production runs, and the weld zone fatigues after 15 to 20 years of expansion cycles. In Denton, that fatigue accelerates because our summer attic temperatures hit 140°F-plus, stressing the metal further. We cut back to sound metal, sleeve with a DuraFlex 316Ti corrugated section, and back-weld with continuous seam technique - not another spot weld.
  • FM-100 rigid tee: creosote dam at the smoke chamber transition. The FM-100’s rectangular tee outlet sits proud of the smoke chamber floor by design, creating a ledge where Class II and III creosote pack hard. Homeowners smell a sour, acrid odor in fall when the first fire reheats the deposit. We pull the tee, rotary-clean the chamber with poly chains, and reset with a HeatShield-modified transition that eliminates the ledge.
  • Famco galvanized chimney cap: base rail rust-through. Famco’s pre-2010 galvanized caps used a 26-gauge base rail with a single-seam fold. Denton’s humidity swings and occasional ice accumulation let moisture wick behind the rail, rusting from the inside out. The cap looks fine from the ground until it lifts in a wind gust. We replace with a Gelco stainless cap with a double-seam base and drip edge, or fabricate a copper equivalent for historic Denton Square properties where the HOA requires material match.
  • Famco terracotta-to-metal adapter: thermal shock cracking. The adapter that joins Famco metal liners to existing terracotta flues in partial rebuilds was originally packed with standard mortar, not refractory. One chimney fire or even a sustained overfire, and the mortar spalls, dropping the adapter. We find this regularly in Denton’s 1970s ranch renovations near University Drive. Our fix: remove the failed adapter, reseat with HeatShield Cerfractory foam, and install a stainless anchor plate with mechanical fasteners - no mortar dependency.
  • Famco direct-vent co-linear termination: intake/exhaust reversal in high wind. The Famco CV-200 termination hood uses a shared wall between intake and exhaust that can flex in sustained 25+ mph winds, common on Denton’s open prairie exposures west of I-35. Exhaust gases recirculate, sooting the burner and triggering CO alarms. We inspect the hood geometry with a borescope, replace the wall if warped, and upgrade to a Gelco wind-resistant termination with separated channels.

Our Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild Process

Our Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild Process
  1. 1
Call and scope. A live person answers. We ask the Famco model or series if you know it, the installation year, and what you’re seeing. We book a Level 2 inspection with camera scan.
  2. 2
NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection on arrival. Our tech runs a chimney camera the full flue length, photographs every joint, collar, and transition. You watch the feed in real time. The camera doesn’t guess - and neither do I.
  3. 3
Written price, written scope, written warranty. Before any tool leaves the truck, you get a single-page quote with line items, parts specified by brand and grade, and labor hours. Haven Standard Clause 1: have it in writing.
  4. 4
Parts decision: OEM Famco, or quality aftermarket. We stock DuraFlex 316Ti, HeatShield refractory, and Gelco terminations through our Haven buying network. If Famco OEM is available and price-competitive, we quote it. If not, we explain the aftermarket equivalent and why it meets or exceeds the original spec.
  5. 5
Repair or rebuild, then pressure test or smoke test. Liners get a pressurized leak test at 2 inches water column. Rebuilds get a smoke pellet test to verify draft. Every joint, every seam, documented.
  6. 6
Cleanup, photo record, and 365-Day Done Right Promise. Haven Standard Clause 4 requires a documented photo record on every job - included, not extra. You get the files by text or email before we leave.

Why Denton Homeowners Call Emberly Chimney Cleaners Denton for Famco Work

We’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and a meaningful share of those have been Famco products in Denton homes. Our techs know the FM-80 collar weld issue by sight, and they know which Denton neighborhoods built in the 1990s are likely to have them. We’re not guessing.

Every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise, backed by the Haven Standard. Every tech is background-checked, uniformed, and named before arrival. You’ll get a text when they’re on the way. And because we source DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, and other materials through Haven’s buying network, we can offer quality alternatives when Famco OEM is back-ordered or overpriced - which happens more than it should.

We are an independent Famco service provider. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Famco Manufacturing.
