The cast units used a 3/16-inch cable; the stainless line moved to 1/4-inch aircraft cable with a different crimp fitting. Mix the cable spec and the cap won’t seat square.

What we don’t recommend: unbolting the cap assembly yourself or attempting to reset spring tension. The Gelco spring is under preload; releasing it without a capture tool can launch hardware. More critically, the anchor bracket is mortared into the flue tile; disturbing it without knowing the liner condition risks cracking clay tile and creating a path for combustion gases.
